UPDATE: State Looking To Reexamine Hadel Retrial

Posted: Updated:

WORCESTER CO., Md. - Maryland attorneys are asking a state appellate court to re-examine a recent decision to retry convicted murderer Justin Hadel.

According to Worcester County state's attorney Beau Oglesby, the Office of the Attorney filed a Petition for Writ of Certiorari with the Court of Appeals, asking them for permission to appeal the ruling. The request comes more than a month after the Court of Special Appeals, the state's highest appellate court, ruled in favor of Hadel to take up his case again.

In 2011, Hadel was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for killing Christine Sheddy and burying her body behind a Snow Hill bed and breakfast.

Hadel claimed his conviction should be thrown out because he wasn't allowed to switch attorneys four days before his trial.

The Court of Special Appeals made their ruling in May. The Court of Appeals can then either hear the case or deny. If denied,  Hadel's case could go back to trial.
