Dewey Beach Considers Portable Detention Unit

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - One topic at Friday's Dewey Beach Town Commissioners meeting, a suggestion for the resort town to rent or purchase a Portable Detention Unit.

Mayor Diane Hanson tells 47ABC, the recommendation came from the public safety committee to bring in one unit to help supplement the one jail cell in the town.

"It's just, we don't have facilities sometimes if you have a bunch of people that are disorderly, and sometimes you have that one person who is extremely disorderly and you can't put them in with anyone else," says Dewey Beach mayor, Diane Hanson.

Mayor Hanson says the portable detention unit wouldn't parade people up and down Route One, it could very likely stay put near the police station, but this idea is still a ways from becoming reality.
