One Arrested In Milford After Overnight Marsh Search

Posted: Updated:

MILFORD, Del. - A Magnolia man is behind bars after he reportedly hid from Police overnight in a local marsh.

Milford Police say on Tuesday, an Officer tried to pull over a vehicle that was driving at a high rate of speed on Route 1. According to the report, the vehicle ignored the Officer's signals, and kept driving southbound. Milford Police requested assistance from Delaware State Police, and they were able to get the driver to stop on Route 1, near Brick Granary Road.

The driver, identified as 38-year-old Williams Robbins, refused to get out of the vehicle, and was removed by Officers, and continued to struggle with them. Police say they tasered Robbins, but kept struggling. At one point, Robbins apparently broke free from Officers, and fled on foot, jumping over a guardrail and went into a nearby marsh/waterway.

The DSP Aviation Unit and K-9 units helped Milford Police with the search, but turned up nothing. On Wednesday afternoon, Milford Police responded back to the area, for reports of a sighting of Robbins. Milford Police, along with Milton Police and Delaware State Police, searched the area, found Robbins and took him into custody.

Robbins was treated at Milford Bayhealth Hospital for injuries he got in the marsh from insects and environmental elements. Police say their investigation revealed that Robbins had spent the entire night in the marsh, to try and avoid capture.

He was charged with felony disregarding a Police Officer's signal, resisting arrest, 2 counts of criminal mischief under $1,000, driving while suspended/revoked and other traffic offenses. He is now being held at Sussex Correctional Institute on $6,500 bond. Robbins also apparently had active capiases out of various courts.
