Wade, 2012 US Senate GOP Candidate, Files Candidacy

DOVER, Del. - The filing period for Delaware candidates is now closed, but a familiar name made it on the ballot for U.S. Senate just in time.

Kevin Wade officially filed Tuesday afternoon. The last time the republican ran was in 2012 against Sen. Tom Carper. This time, he's going up against Carl Smink for the Republican nomination. The winner of that ticket will face incumbent Sen. Chris Coons, who filed back in April.

"We've got serious problems and we've got to find a new direction and it can't be a direction that relies on tired arguments from the left and the right," Wade said in a phone interview. "I'm a conservation person, but I know we need to find a new way and we need to get the people united again."

Ian Koski, director of communications for Coons, sent 47 ABC a statement about the senator's campaign.

"Senator [Chris] Coons is working hard to serve the people of Delaware, today meeting with the President's manufacturing team to work on bipartisan legislation to create more manufacturing hubs around the country. He looks forward to a constructive and vigorous campaign this fall, but right now, he is focused squarely on serving his neighbors in Delaware."

The primary is September 9th. Coons is running unopposed in the primary.
