SALISBURY, Md. - An early morning arson inside of a Salisbury apartment building, is under investigation.

The Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office says the blaze started in the second floor elevator lobby area, of 939 Gateway Street, around 1:45 AM on Sunday. Officials say three Salisbury firefighters, quickly controlled the flames when they arrived on scene, after being alerted by the building's fire alarm system.

The fire alarm was apparently working in the three story wood framed apartment building, but the sprinkler system did not activate. Damages are at an estimated loss of $50 worth of contents, with no damage to the structure.

Deputy Fire Marshals have ruled the cause of the fire in Gateway Village as arson. Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact the Salisbury Office of the Maryland State Fire Marshal's Office at 410-713-3780.
