Salisbury, MD.- The Delmarva Shorebirds displayed some offensive fireworks just in time for Independence Day, blasting the Lakewood BlueClaws 17-5.
The teams would trade punches in the first two innings, as Nick Cunningham would make his debut on the mound for the Shorebirds, and would be greeted by Lakewood with two runs in the top of the first. Cunningham's new teammates would have his back as Chance Sisco responded with a two-run home run in the bottom of the first. The BlueClaws would take a 3-2 lead in the top of the second, but Delmarva would tie the game once again in the bottom half of the inning with a sacrifice fly by Lucas Herbst.
The 'Birds would go on to score eight unanswered runs. The story of the night was Gregory Lorenzo who finished 4-for-5 with two triples and five RBIs. In total, the 17 runs scored were the most in a game this season. Cunningham would earn the victory in his Shorebirds debut, while Alex Santana and Garrett Cortright also pitched in the win, their first appearances at Perdue Stadium.
