Hornets Release 2014 Football Schedule

Posted: Updated:

Dover, DE.- The Delaware State Hornets released their 2014 regular season football schedule on Monday.

The 6-time MEAC Champions open up their 90th season on Saturday, August 30th on the road in West Long Branch, New Jersey to take on Monmouth at 1 p.m. One week later, September 6th, the Hornets travel to Tubby Raymond field to take on in-state rival University of Delaware for a 6 p.m. kickoff.

DSU hosts its first home game on September 13th in Alumni Stadium in Dover on Hall of Fame Day against Towson. The Tigers advanced to the FCS title game last season, where they would fall to three time defending champion North Dakota State.

On September 20th the Hornets will get a little taste of the big leagues when they travel to Philadelphia to take on the Temple Owls at Lincoln Financial Field, home of the Philadelphia Eagles. Del State will return home the next week (9/27) to open up MEAC play, taking on Savannah State, in their only home night game.

The Hornets face perhaps their biggest conference test of the season when they travel to Daytona Beach, Florida to take on defending conference champions Bethune-Cookman on October 4th, then travel next Saturday (10/11) to Norfolk, VA to play another conference foe, Norfolk State University.

Homecoming festivities peak in Dover on Saturday, October 18th at 2 p.m. when DSU takes on North Carolina A&T. On October 25th, Delaware State will host open house on campus, while hosting Hampton University in Alumni Stadium.

DSU will travel to our nation's capital to take on Howard University. The Hornets will get a week off before playing their final home game vs. Florida A&M(11/15). The regular season ends with DSU traveling to Baltimore to take on conference rival Morgan State (11/22).

The Hornets are in their 4th year under Head Coach Kermit Blount and finished third in the MEAC in 2013 with a 5-3 conference record.
