On The Lookout: Reading Of Miranda Rights

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - Do Miranda Rights need to be read every time an arrest is made?

According to Wicomico Bureau of Investigation, the answer is no. When asking administrative questions, like a name and address, investigators say they don't need to read rights. Also, if there aren't questions asked during an arrest, Mirandizing isn't needed.

"We don't have to stop someone from talking, so if someone has an amount of information that comes from their mouth we just let it go," said Sgt. David Owens. "It's when we get into that incriminating line of questioning that Miranda Rights have to be advised."
