Salisbury In Negotiations For Downtown Redevelopment

Posted: Updated:

SALISBURY, Md. - A local downtown has entered into a negotiation period with a development company.

The City of Salisbury says during their request of proposals in December 2013, for how to redevelop three of the parking lots in Downtown Salisbury, they received a response from Harkins Downtown, LLC. In that proposal they featured plans for apartments, retail space, a boutique hotel and restaurant, a multi-level parking garage with additional retail, along with open space. The project would use both public, and private funds to complete.

The Salisbury City Council, and Mayor James Ireton, Jr., have now agreed to enter into an Exclusive Negotiation Period with Harkins, to discuss the project in more detail. The ENP, which runs from July 1st, 2014 for six months, assures Harkins that the City will not sell the property during this time.

Salisbury Mayor, James Ireton, Jr., said this of taking the next step, "This is incredibly good news for downtown. Expanding our economic base creating new jobs, and making downtown home for many new residents has always been our goal. New customers for our downtown businesses will lead to continued success. As these phases are completed over the next several years, they will be the next chapter in our Downtown Salisbury success story."
