DE Tax Legislation Could Complicate Costs In Dewey Beach

Posted: Updated:

DEWEY BEACH, Del. - Stricter tax regulations are just one step away from coming to municipalities across Delaware.

House bill 333 is reportedly awaiting Governor Markell's signature, which states that municipalities, including Dewey Beach, cannot levy or impose a tax against anyone, including businesses, without approval from the Delaware General Assembly.

With concerns in Dewey Beach about police spending, particularly for increasing enforcement on dollar drink night at Northbeach, town officials tell 47 ABC. the new legislation may hold them back from offsetting those costs.

Dewey Beach Mayor Diane Hanson says if they are unable to tax businesses, and businesses such as Northbeach are going to cost the town money, they may run into some challenges.
