New Details, 3-D Facial Photos Released In 2012 Dover Body Investigation

DOVER, Del. - Dozens of cars drive by Crawford Carroll Street Tuesday afternoon.

Many on their way to Sam's Club. Next to that property: a gate closed to a wooded area.

On November 2nd, 2012, Dover Police began a death investigation after body was found in the woods. Police say it already decomposing.

Almost two years later and police still have not identified that person.

"Unfortunately in this situation the body was so badly decomposed there wasn't much for us to work with," said Lt. Jason Pires.

Aside from the decomposed body, Pires says all they really knew was what he was wearing an XXL white T-shirt, 38x30 blue jeans and black sneakers.

No ID, just two barely visible tattoos.

Now the department has more to work with.

The Department of Health and Social Services released 3D facial reconstruction photos piecing together what the man may have looked like: brown hair, balding, some facial hair.

And two tattoos.

According to Pires, their hope is that they'll be able to pinpoint the tattoo artist to try and close the case.

"We know somebody out there, they're family member is missing or whole on this is to hopefully identify this person so we can provide that closure and answers those questions," said Pires.

According to DHSS, the facial recognition was actually done by a Delaware artist as a 2-D drawing before being sent out to a forensic artist in Texas to make the 3-D model.

As for DNA and hair testing of the person, Pires says it was done, but no match was found in the system.

If you recognize the man or might know anything about his identity, call Dover Police at 302-736-7111.
