Dover Downs: No Plans For Layoffs At This Point

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - Delaware casinos did not get the systemic changes they wanted during the last night of session.

They did however get some additional funding many are calling a "Band-Aid" measure.

Delaware lawmakers approved a $10 million financial bailout for the state's three casinos. Dover Downs officials tell 47 ABC they are unhappy with the revenue-sharing situation, right now casinos cough up more than 40 percent to the state considered the steepest in the country.

Already this quarter, the casino lost $1 million.

"We have no plans for a layoff at this point in time," said Ed Sutor, CEO and president of Dover Downs. "We have some of the best employees in the whole industry.  We love them. The last thing we want to do is to part with well trained, likeable, good customer service trained employees.

"Hopefully that doesn't occur or if it does it's minimized only through attrition."

Leaders in the gaming industry say they will begins talks in September before bringing a new bill before the next General Assembly in January.
