Five Arrested In Drug Trafficking Organization In Caroline Co.

Posted: Updated:

DENTON, Md. - A multi-jurisdictional investigation, centered in Caroline County, has led to four drug arrests in Maryland, and one in Delaware, and more expected.

Maryland State Police say on June 23rd and 24th, they arrested 27-year-old Byron Drummond, 25-year-old Joseph Dean, and 22-year-old Taylor Gibson, all of Denton. Also arrested was 36-year-old Gary Kess Jr., of Windsor Mill. These arrests stem from an investigation started four months ago by the Caroline County Drug Task Force, into the distribution of heroin in the Upper Shore.

Police say that investigation showed that Drummond, Gibson, and Dean were part of a drug trafficking operation that supplied drugs, including heroin, throughout Caroline County. Kess is reportedly believed to be the source for the heroin that Drummond and the others were distributing.

During that time period, Police say they executed 13 search warrants in the county, and recovered seven handguns, one rifle, more than 230 grams of heroin, along with cocaine, marijuana, oxycodone and suboxone. They also apparently found $42,000 in cash, and seized eight vehicles believed to be related to the drug operation.

The four were arrested after they apparently had a meeting in Anne Arundel County to purchase heroin.

Drummond, is charged with being a drug kingpin, possession of a large amount of a controlled dangerous substance -heroin, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance not marijuana. He is being held without bail in the Queen Anne's County Detention Center.

Dean is charged with being a drug kingpin, possession of a large amount of a controlled dangerous substance - heroin, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance not marijuana.

Gibson is charged with being a drug kingpin, possession of a large amount of a controlled dangerous substance - heroin, possession with intent to distribute narcotics, two counts of possession of a controlled dangerous substance not marijuana, and possession of marijuana.

Drummond, Dean, and Gibson are all being held without bail in the Queen Anne's County Detention Center.

Kess is charged with possession of a large amount of a controlled dangerous substance - heroin), possession with intent to distribute narcotics, and possession of a controlled dangerous substance not marijuana, and is being held without bail in the Anne Arundel County Detention Center.

Delaware State Police arrested an additional suspect, Bobby Jackson, of Delaware, after Maryland authorities forwarded them the information that was discovered during the investigation. Police say the investigation is on-going at this time, and they anticipate making more arrests, and bringing more charges.
