UPDATE: Motorcyclist Succumbs To Injuries In Delmar Crash

Posted: Updated:

DELMAR, Del. - Delaware State Police say John H. English, 60, of Delmar, has died from injuries sustained in the crash that occurred last Thursday evening in Delmar.

Police say English, who had been admitted to the R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, MD was pronounced dead this morning.

According to reports, the incident occurred at approximately 10:10 PM on Thursday evening as English was operating a 2000 Kawasaki Vulcan motorcycle northbound on Sussex Highway (US13) in the right lane approximately a quarter mile north of Iron Hill Road. Police say it is believed that an unknown type vehicle may have pulled out in front of the motorcycle causing the operator to lock the brakes and lay the motorcycle down to avoid contact.  In doing so, both English and a female passenger, Lisa Boothe, 48, of Delmar, were reportedly ejected onto the roadway where thEnglish landed in the left lane, and Boothe in the right lane.

Police say shortly after the motorcycle crashed, a 2000 Honda Accord, also traveling northbound on US13 in the right lane, partially ran over Boothe, who was apparently unconscious in the right lane. Neither occupant of the motorcycle was reportedly wearing a helmet.

Police say the operator of the Honda Accord, Richard Jones, 32 of Delmar, was properly restrained and uninjured.

The Collision Reconstruction Unit is reportedly continuing their investigation into this collision and are actively trying to determine if a non-contact vehicle contributed to the initial crash.  Preliminary investigation reportedly suggests alcohol is believed to be a factor on behalf of the motorcycle operator.

If anyone has any information in reference to this incident, they are asked to contact Sgt. A. Mendez at 302-644-5020 or by calling Delaware Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333.
