On The Lookout: Investigators Warns About Recent Vehicle Break-Ins

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - Make sure to lock your cars at night.

The Wicomico Bureau of Investigation warns about a wave of recent vehicle break-ins. Increases in crimes like this are typically seen around the holidays.

But we're told there are spikes in crimes during the summer, as well. Investigators say suspects are often trying to steal in order to support a drug habit.

Most of the cases, WBI says, is happening at night in neighborhoods throughout the county.

"We were able to deploy the helicopters to assist and they captured a few people involved in that," said Sgt. David Owens. "Clearly they're still going on as we speak, so that didn't solve all the problems.

"But if we can take that real aggressive, proactive approach to those kind of things supported by the help of people in general with people in the communities, we can make a difference in these things."

How can you help?

Sgt. Owens says listen for signs of a break-in, like a car alarm going off. If you notice anything suspicious, do not hesitate to call 911.
