Maple Elementary School To Pilot A School Uniform Program

Posted: Updated:

DORCHESTER CO., Md. - Students at one local elementary school will be participating in a new dress code program next school year.

The Board of Education in Dorchester County says on June 19th, they gave permission to Maple Elementary School to start the first uniform program in the county. The school apparently asked the board for program, and backed with parental support, it was approved. The new policy is expected to include improvements in student behavior, attendance, and achievement.

Starting with the new 2014-15 school year, students from prekindergarten to 5th grade will be expected to wear uniform tops, or polo shirts, in dark green, white, or pale yellow, uniform bottoms, including slacks, shorts, capris, or skirts, in tan/khaki, navy, or black, and tennis shoes/sneakers. The school will reportedly be sending out postcards about the new program, to inform parents.

Officials say local consignment shops have been working to get low cost uniform pieces. Items can also be bought at Walmart, Target, JC Pennys & Old Navy. Maple Elementary School will also be selling polos with the school logo on them, for around $10. The school says they are hoping for donations of slightly used pieces, to have extras to have available in the building.

For more information on donations and the new program, contact the school at 410-228-8577.
