Gordons Pond Trail Already Drawing Hundreds

Posted: Updated:

DELAWARE - Cape Henlopen State Park has finally opened its much awaited Gordons Pond trail, and we're told hundreds of bikers and hikers are already taking advantage of it.

The 3.2 mile trail is a link to a 15-mile loop that connects Lewes and Rehoboth Beach. We're told it's taken years to finally make this a reality, and despite all the challenges with the construction process, it's well worth it.

"You've got to go on it to see it. It's incredible. It's through the wetlands, you'll be able to see a variety of wildlife -- it's really neat. People come to Cape for more than just the beach. And they'll be here more year round, because it's neat to ride in the winter," Regional Park Administrator Patrick Cooper said.

The $3.5 million project is part of Governor Jack Markell's Trails and Pathways Initiative.
