Wicomico County Voters Will Elect Circuit Court Judge

WICOMICO Co., Md. - Wicomico County voters will have a chance to cast their votes for Circuit Court judge, for the first time in twenty years.

Judge Jimmy Sarbanes was appointed by the governor just a few months ago, and is running against Salisbury attorney Melvin "MJ" Caldwell Jr.

According to the state board of elections, when the governor creates a new judgeship, the person who is appointed, has to stand for election in the next one scheduled, which is the 2014 cycle.

"In this primary election, the Democrat voters will have both candidates on their ballots, as well as the Republican voters. And each party will determine who they want to represent the on the November ballot," Wicomico County Election Board Director Anthony Gutierrez said.

The winner of the general election will serve a 15-year term. Polls for the primary open Tuesday morning at 7 a.m. and close at 8 p.m.
