GEORGETOWN, Del. - Nineteen-year-old Rondaiges Harper, who is one of three people accused of carjacking and kidnapping an elderly woman in March 2013, suffered two seizures during the first day of his trial.

Harper is charged with a kidnapping, carjacking and two counts of conspiracy. He is facing more than 50 years behind bars. The jury, which was selected on Thursday, is made up of six men and six women, with two alternates.

During the first day of testimony, Harper had a seizure, which called the court to recess before lunch. He later suffered a second seizure. The judge addressed them as involuntary actions to the jurors and told them to treat it as such. He later asked for Harper to be medically evaluated before Tuesday's testimonies.

The niece of the apparent victim, Margaret Smith, took the stand on Monday, saying that she checked on her aunt up to three times a day before the incident. After the incident, Smith apparently started showing signs of onset dementia.

A doctor also testified, about bruises on Smith's hand. Also on the stand were a witness from the cemetery that the suspects reportedly dropped Smith in, along with investigators from Delaware State Police.

The trial is anticipated to go all week with Smith expected to take the stand on Tuesday.
