UPDATE: Wilmington VA Center All Clear After Bomb Threat

Posted: Updated:

WILMINGTON, Del. (AP) - Officials at the Wilmington Veterans Affairs Medical Center say the facility has been given an all clear after three administrative buildings were evacuated because of a bomb threat on the grounds.

Spokesman James Coty told The News Journal of Wilmington Monday that the threat was declared over about 2:30 p.m. He said an "innocent item" was found and deemed harmless.

Wilmington Veterans Affairs police were notified of the threat about 8 a.m. Monday. According to a statement, the threat stemmed from a shooting incident at the facility June 6.

Officials blocked off and evacuated three buildings, two of which were occupied. Delaware State Police brought bomb-sniffing dogs to search the area. FBI investigators also were called to the scene.

Officials say no patients were affected by the search or evacuations.
