One Last Hoorah: Delmarva Chicken Fest Ends 65 Year Run

Posted: Updated:

CENTREVILLE, Md. - A Delmarva tradition will make its final cluck this weekend.

The Delmarva Chicken Festival is well underway at the Centreville 4-H Park in Queen Anne's County. The crowds poured in, lining up to get a final taste of the world famous pan fried chicken.

It's the 65th year for the event, but sadly, this will be the last year of the festival.

47 ABC caught up with leaders in the poultry industry to talk about its departure.

"Unfortunately, this is the last one," said Roger Marino of Mountaire Farms. "We used to be able to book this 2-4 years in advance. Now its come down to the volunteers aren't there."

Marino says leaders in Delaware, Maryland and Virginia are looking at new ideas to promote the chicken industry. A proposal for a new event is expected to be presented by August 1st.
