New Pedestrian Signal To Be Installed Near Dover High School

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - Crews will be installing a new crosswalk system, to make heading to one local school, safer.

The Delaware Department of Transportation says starting on Monday, contractors will start working on a new traffic signal, called a High-intensity Activated Crosswalk also known as HAWK, in front of the new Dover High School, on Route 8 and Forrest Avenue.

The work is expected to run from 9:00 AM until 3:00 PM, for about two weeks. Officials say there will be intermittent lane closures, due to the aerial work associated with the project.

The signal, which only activates when someone walks up to it and presses the button, is expected to be fully operational by mid-August. Drivers can anticipate new signage near the school, alerting them to the new signal.

DelDOT installed the HAWK signal at the University of Delaware on Route 72 at Farm/Webb Lane in August 2010.
