Biden: Inadequate Security At Drug Lab Disturbing

Posted: Updated:

DOVER, Del. - A new report by the Department of Justice sheds new light on the scandal surrounding the Office of The Chief Medical Examiner in Delaware.

The DOJ report is just four months into their investigation, but it reportedly found that systemic operational failings resulted in the evidence-tampering and theft at Delaware's drug testing lab.

In a statement, attorney general Beau Biden said that the "lack of oversight and inadequate security at the Medical Examiner's drug lab is deeply disturbing. Our preliminary report spells out for the public the extent of those failings to-date and the need for state leaders to take the necessary steps to address them.

"Delaware must have its own independent, state-of-the-art crime laboratory.  A new crime lab is the right thing for Delaware's criminal justice system and the right thing for taxpayers."

Fifty one pieces of evidence were apparently compromised and oxycotin, marijuana, heroin as well as cocaine were found missing.

All this were part of 46 cases dating back to 2010.
