Artist Tells About Emotional Meaning Behind New Heron Mural

SALISBURY, Md. - The "New Vision Heron Mural" is set to be unveiled in Downtown Salisbury at Third Friday.

Crews installed the 30-foot painting this week, nearly two years after the original was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy.  That original painting, of one heron, unveiled back in 1994, was a bereavement project inspired by the artist's late-first wife.

James Thatcher spoke to 47 ABC about the what he hopes the public will get out of the work, which was funded completely by community donations.

"That is one of the points that I would like the community to think about. Think about community and the power of agreement in the community and teamwork," says Thatcher.

The mural is on the West Church Street entrance of the City Center in Downtown Salisbury.  The official unveiling of the New Vision Heron Mural will be at 5 pm during Third Friday.
