Jurors Selected In 1st Trial For 2013 Carjacking Of Elderly Woman

GEORGETOWN, Del. - One of three teenagers accused of kidnapping an elderly Delaware woman and locking her in the trunk of her car will face trial next week.

Six men and six women were picked on Thursday as jurors with two alternates.

Rondaiges Harper, 19, is charged with a kidnapping, carjacking and two counts of conspiracy. His trial begins Monday and he faces more than 60 years behind bars.

In March 2013, then-89-year-old Margaret Smith of Lincoln said two young girls asked for a ride and when she agreed, the girls allegedly forced her into her trunk.  Two days later, she was found in a cemetery in Seaford.

Harper is the first of the three to go to trial. The girls, Junia McDonald and Jackeline Perez, are scheduled for August and October, respectively.
