Snow Hill Unveils New $14M Wastewater Plant

Posted: Updated:

SNOW HILL, Md. - It was the official unveiling for the new wastewater treatment plant in Snow Hill.

It has actually been up-and-running since last year. But town leaders revealed all the details on Tuesday. It apparently cost $14 million. This new plant filters out nitrogen and phosphorus, something not previously done at the plant.

Officials say this project was 20 years in the making.

"You can't have towns, beautiful, historic downtowns like Snow Hill, things have to work," said Dr. Bill McGowan, state director USDA Rural Development. "You have to drink water, you have to dispose of your affluent in a way that is environmentally sustainable.  Pocomoke is a straight shot into  the Chesapeake Bay so this project pulls all of that together."

The plant has only been up an running a few months and already it has won this year's Maryland Rural Water Association "Wastewater System of the Year" award.
