WALLOPS ISLAND, Va. - Residents in Wallops Island might see more planes and vapor trails in the sky over the next two weeks.

That's because close to 200 Naval aviators, air crew and maintenance personnel will be conducting Field Carrier Landing Practice operations, also known as "touch-and-go" exercises in the area as part of final preparation before doing it out at sea on aircraft carriers.

But it's not just the flights, they'll also be temporarily living in the area as well.

"It's certainly good for the Eastern Shore I think to have the additional folks around," said commanding officer Paul Lanzilotta. "It's almost 200 people that will be living up there for a couple of weeks. So certainly I hope it benefits the economy up there."

The operations last through June 27th before the crew packs up and flies back to Norfolk.
