Shorebirds Lose 6th Straight, 5-4 To Crawdads

Posted: Updated:

Salisbury, MD - The Delmarva Shorebirds lost their 6th straight game with a 5-3 loss to the Hickory Crawdads in the homestand finale. Delmarva now hits the road for their final games before the All-Star break.

Hickory jumped out to an early lead with a run in the top of the first. The Shorebirds would find their answer in the 4th thought when Gregory Lorenzo sent his first home run of the year over the left field fence. But as they have done all series, the Crawdads came right back, and scored two more runs in the top of the 5th. The first was scored off a past ball that allowed a runner to come in from 3rd base. That was followed by a RBI single.

Chance Sisco then made it a one run game by hitting his 3rd home run of the year, a solo shot in the 5th. The Crawdads would tack on two runs in the 8th to leave little doubt in this one though. Mike Yastrzemski ripped a double to the left-center gap, and then came around on an RBI single by Trey Mancini.

The Shorebirds now travel for the final series before the All-Star Break at West Virginia. Left-hander Luis Gonzalez (1-0, 1.69) starts the opener for Delmarva against fellow southpaw Cody Dickson (2-7, 5.60). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 pm at Appalachian Power Park on Thursday evening.
