PTA Concerned About Parent Involvement In Wicomico Co.

WICOMICO CO., Md. - The Wicomico County Council of Parent Teacher Associations says parents should have gotten more say in two big decisions by the schools' administration.

PTA officials tells 47 ABC, they are concerned that parents were notified through a letter about the changes to the "magnet program," and that it was after the fact, and without any opportunity to give input.

The program, which provides classes for high performing learners, was consolidated to only North Salisbury Elementary, cutting out Pemberton Elementary.

Administrators also reportedly sent a letter home to Mardela High School parents that if their child wanted to play sports not offered at the public schools, they would be required to transfer to Wicomico High School, not their high school of choice.

PTA officials say they feel it was against school policy to not involve all stakeholders.
