MD DNR Announces Grant For Wico Co. Watershed Projects

WICOMICO CO., Md. - It looks like clean up is on the to-do list in Wicomico County.

Maryland's Department of Natural Resources announced funding for eight projects Wednesday morning.

One of the sites: Schumaker Park. The other sites include Upper Ferry Crossing, Pemberton Historical Park, Wicomico County Regional Airport and Arthur Perdue Stadium

Public Works crews plan grow native plants, which will help filter out sediments like nitrogen and phosphorous running into the area waterways.

We're told all the effort will help remove 200 pounds of these materials will be removed each year.

"Our commitment is to do what we can to do to clean up our part of it so that in Wicomico County, we are going to fulfill our obligation to try to keep our water ways clean and hopefully serve as an example," said Wicomico County Executive Rick Pollitt.

It will cost close to $750,000, a majority from a DNR grant. The project is expected to wrap up next year.
