Ocean City Celebrates 150 Façade Improvements

Posted: Updated:

Ocean City, MD - Maryland officials celebrated the completion of the 150th facelift for Ocean City buildings on Tuesday. For the last 11 years, the city has offered grants to residential and business property owners through the façade improvement project. The city receives between $50,000 to $100,000 each year, which helps to fund between 12-14 projects.

Glenn Irwin, who is the executive director of the Ocean City Development Corporation is optimistic about the future success of the program. "We have eight projects underway right now, and as soon as the summer ends we'll probably get a number of new applications," he said.

Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan says he is happy with the results thus far. "It's allowed some of the old buildings to revitalize themselves and remain part of our community. And that is what we wanted to see happen," he said. He added that many of these program recipients continue to update the inside of the buildings once the exterior designs have completed.

Irwin says that seventeen projects have been completed in the past twelve months.
