Teen Sent To Hospital After Apparent Shark Bite

Posted: Updated:

LEWES, Del. - A 16-year-old was taken to the hospital for apparent shark bite gashes late Monday afternoon.

DNREC says the Delmar teenager told Parks Enforcement that he felt something grab his arm about 5 p.m. while swimming at Cape Henlopen State Park.

The teen then flailed his arm to get the shark to release its bite before it swam away.

Lifeguards on duty treated his cuts and the teen was transported to Beebe for further medical attention.

The main swimming beach at Cape Henlopen State Park will delay allowing swimmers in the water Tuesday morning while lifeguards and biologists monitor the water.
