Kids Prep For Possible SUP Tourney

Posted: Updated:

FENWICK ISLAND, Del. - The second annual "Paddle Fenwick" race is set for the end of the month, and a new group of racers could make their debut.

Area kids are putting in a bit of practice in local waterways, getting familiar with Stand Up Paddle boarding.  They're building up a competitive edge ahead of the fund raising race benefiting Operation Second Chance on June 28.

Last year, more than 100 racers came out to the event, raising money for soldiers and Marines while they are at Walter Reed Army Medical Center.

"The goal is to get them fired up and competitive about paddle boarding and somewhat competitive," said George Markopoulos of Delmarva Board Sports "And there's a reduced rate for them to register and come to the race."

Markopoulos hopes that if enough people sign up, the kids can create a division within the race just for them, opening the possibility of a SUP team.
