Posted: Updated:

CRAPO, Md. - A 6-year-old girl and her aunt are recovering after being bitten by 2 pit bulls on Friday in Crapo. Deputies with the Dorchester County Sheriff's Office, Dorchester County Dog Control and Dorchester County E.M.S., all responded to a call to Robbins Road, for reports of a dog bite.

According to the report, once on scene Deputies say they found that the 6-year-old girl, and a 37-year-old Nicole Dee Shorter, had been attacked by two pit bull dogs. Police say the young girl had severe bites to her head, face, arms, and legs. Shorter reportedly had bites to her legs.

The child was air lifted, to Johns Hopkins Trauma Center for treatment, where it was found that she lost 60% of her scalp and needed 80 stitches to her head and face. Police say the 6-year-old also suffered lost tissue trauma from her abdomen, legs, and arms. She is currently listed in stable condition, and is awaiting several surgeries to repair the wounds.

Shorter was apparently taken to Dorchester General, where she received treatment for her injuries. Deputies and Dog Control Personnel say they took the dogs into custody, and were euthanized for testing.
