SALISBURY, Md. - Hundreds filled Downtown Salisbury Sunday, for the 3rd Maxima Summer Fest.

47 ABC's Sports team hit the stage, introducing themselves in between a number of Spanish language bands that rocked the crowd.

The annual block party celebrates Hispanic culture here on Delmarva, but one of the event organizers we spoke with says while the food and music come out of Latin America, the event is for everyone.

"This is a good thing to show how is our culture, how is the food how is the music," says Kevin Andrade, with Maxima, "it's good to have this because we want to share with everybody what is the Hispanic community about."

New this year to Summer Fest, Chef Curtis Aikens from the Food Network was out teaching healthier ways to make traditional Latin American dishes.

According to the US department of health and human services office of minority health, Hispanics are almost twice as likely to be diagnosed with diabetes as non-Hispanic whites.

"I'm a type 2 diabetic, and I'm trying to get the word out.  We can beat diabetes," says Curtis Aikens, "we have always historically been working people, but as our lifestyles have changed, our diet hasn't changed."
