47 ABC Honored In Associated Press Awards

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Tonight, 47 ABC is the proud recipient of four Chesapeake Associated Press Broadcasters Association awards for news coverage done in 2013.

The station is honored to take home the award for Outstanding Enterprise Reporting for the fifth year in a row. This year's award went to Reporter Kody Leibowitz and Chief Photographer Mike Lawrence for their work on the story "Jungle Video," which delved into controversy over a
viral rap video. The video shows underage men brandishing assault-style weapons, underage drinking and drugs.

For the third year in a row, 47 ABC won the honor for Outstanding Weathercast, presented to Chief Meteorologist Travis Michels. His broadcast on Aug. 8, 2013, was "conversational and to the point," judges said. "It also included viewers' names to help the station better identify with their audience."

Also for the third year in a row, 47 ABC was given the Outstanding News Series award for 2013. It was in recognition of Senior Anchor Emily Lampa and Chief Photographer Mike Lawrence's work on a series called "Wicomico's Most Wanted." The series highlighted wanted individuals across Wicomico County and urged viewers caution while offering them an easy way to send in tips. Emily's "Most Wanted" series continues to be a popular and effective project,
even taking home the award two years ago for a similar series, "Worcester's Most Wanted."

The final award was given for Outstanding Spot News Reporting. Anchor/Reporter Jemie Lee and Photographer Jennifer Fulginiti received the honor for their work on the dramatic "O.C. Fatal Fire." The live shot was a first glance at a church fire in Ocean City as it developed. That fire took the life of the beloved pastor of the church, and injured one other person. Judges said, "Good live shot, good coverage. I liked the use of viewer photos/video."

The awards were given out at the annual CAPBA banquet in Ocean City on June 7, 2014
