Child Sex Abuse Witness Accused Of Being "Coached"

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Day five in the Eric Bodenweiser sex abuse trial came to an abrupt halt when the jury was suddenly sent home before any court proceedings could even take place.

Unconfirmed rumors are circulating that the alleged victim was possibly rushed to the hospital. 47 ABC reached out to area hospitals in Kent and Sussex Counties, but were unable to confirm that he was ever admitted.

"I don't have any direct information on that," Bodenweiser's attorney Joe Hurley said.

But one thing that did get accomplished, a motion filed by Hurley, asking the court to conduct a hearing on suspicions that the accuser was possibly "coached" on his courtroom demeanor.

"There was a remarkable change in demeanor from Tuesday to Wednesday in terms of the way he comported himself," Hurley said.

Hurley addressed noticeable differences in the accuser's delivery technique, stating "The clasping of the hands, the rotation of the body, the eye sweep of the jury, and the modulation of the voice are hallmarks of training."

"The behavior that he exhibited yesterday was reminiscent of how a federal agent testifies," Hurley said.

The judge granted the motion, in which two state employees were brought to the stand. Both testified that they did not advise the accuser on how to impress the jury.

"These two people testified. I wouldn't have thought that they would have done anything improper, somehow, someway, somebody has talked to him," Hurley said.

The motion hearing is supposed to continue Friday morning with the accuser taking the stand. The trial is expected to resume afterwards. However it's unclear if the accuser is even able to testify, as we don't know what happened to him, if anything. Hurley says that the accuser did show up to court Thursday morning, but could not tell us why he didn't take the stand.
