On The Lookout: Investigation Into Recent Burglaries

Posted: Updated:

WICOMICO CO., Md. - A seemingly quiet Thursday in Pittsville, but investigators are keeping a watchful eye on the area.

"Folks leave for work, spend their day away from home and come home to this catastrophe," said Sgt. David Owens.

The catastrophe: burglary cases, a number open across Wicomico County. In less than two weeks, Owens says 10 separate burglaries popped up in the east side of the county, Parsonsburg and Pittsville included. Within the past month, at least six more happened outside of Fruitland near Colbourne Mill Road and Jackson Road.

That's according to WBI and includes only county numbers.

"We're looking geographically because it looks like a concentration," said Owens. "Storehouse, barn, shed-type crimes, it seems Worcester County may be experiencing that type of stuff, too."

Owens tells 47 ABC he's unsure if any of the crimes are related but is suspicious because of the close proximity. Jewelry appears to be the target and investigators say they'll continue to track down the stolen goods looking to close each case.

Investigators admit they still have no leads and no arrests have been made.

So how do you protect yourself? Police say residents should take pictures of all valuables, such as jewelry and electronics. Also, keep track of serial numbers which could help should officers recover any stolen items.
