EASTON, Md. - Police in Easton are looking for a suspect who apparently fled on foot from a traffic stop.

Easton Police say on Thursday around 2:40 AM, Officers stopped a red 2003 Dodge Durango for a speed violation, on Ocean Gateway, near Talbot Humane. According to the report, as the Officer got out of his patrol car, the Durango fled to Idlewild Avenue, then turned, and stopped at the end of a dead end street.

Police say the suspect then fled on foot, and left behind a female passenger, 37-year-old Michelle Lynn Stanton, of Baltimore, in the vehicle. Officers reportedly searched for the suspect, 26-year-old Michael Bernert, of Baltimore, but weren't able to find him. Inside the vehicle, Police say they saw heroin in plain sight, and charged Stanton with a single count of possession, and before releasing her.

Police say they notified 24-hour businesses in the area of the situation, and were told by Royal Farms employees around 3:40 AM that Bernert may have just left their store. Easton Police, with assistance from Maryland State Police aviation, and Talbot County Sheriff's Deputies, searched the area, but were again unable to locate him.

Bernert was apparently last seen wearing tan shorts, an orange t-shirt, and a black hat. He is wanted for of failing to appear for assault charges. At this time Bernert's whereabouts are unknown, and Police are still looking for him. Anyone with information on his location, should contact Police at 410-822-1111.

There is no evidence that the suspect is armed, but Police still ask the public to be cautious if they see him.
