LEWES, Del. - UPDATE: A second arrest was made Thursday afternoon in the early Wednesday morning brawl at a Lewes Wawa.

Thomas Purnell, 27 of Ellendale, turned himself into troopers at Troop 7 Thursday afternoon. Purnell is accused of assisting Reginald McGlotten in fleeing from a trooper who was attempting to take him into custody.  Purnell was charged with Hindering Prosecution, Felony Resisting Arrest, Conspiracy 2nd, and Disorderly Conduct. He was released on $6,500.00 unsecured bond.

Delaware State Police say Troopers responded to the Wawa on Dartmouth Road, around 1:45 AM on Wednesday, for reports of a large fight inside. When Troopers arrived on scene, they found 28-year-old Reginald McGlotten, who was reportedly acting disorderly and yelling profanities. Police say they told McGlotten, who looked to be intoxicated, to leave the store, but he refused, and when the Trooper attempted to arrest him, the two struggled.

According to the report, as McGlotten was on the ground, and the Trooper was trying to take him into custody, other people on scene started pulling the Trooper off the suspect, which allowed McGlotten to flee. Police say the Trooper chased McGlotten, who was arrested shortly by a Rehoboth Police Officer, who used a Taser to end the pursuit.

McGlotten was taken to Troop 7, where he was charged with felony resisting arrest, conspiracy 2nd, offensive touching of a law enforcement officer, and disorderly conduct. He was also apparently wanted out of multiple courts. McGlotten is being held at Sussex Correctional Institution on $2,750 bond.

Troopers are reportedly still investigating, and are looking to identify the others individuals involved in this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact Sgt. M. Dawson at 302-644-5020 ext. 267 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-TIP-3333. Tips can also be submitted to the DSP Mobile Crime App, texting DSP to CRIMES (274637), or by visiting the TipSubmit website.
