OC Officials, Businesses Gear Up For College Takeover Beach Week

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - Preparations are now underway for "College Takeover Beach Week" in Ocean City.

This event, which took place in Virginia Beach last year, has a rowdy reputation, which apparently included three shooting incidents last summer. Now Ocean City's weekend event is generating a lot of buzz on social media.

Johnny Brooks, CEO of Crabcake Factory, says they are already bracing for the senior week crowd, let alone the college crowd. He says he personally does not feel there will be as many people that social media is claiming, but the uncertainty of the situation is unsettling.

"I think the problem now is people don't know what's going on," says Brooks. "I'm always going to welcome a large crowd into Ocean City, but if they're going to act out of sorts and ruin property and make people not want to come, of course that's going to be a bad thing."

A spokeswoman for Ocean City Police says they will have a heavy police presence, especially on the south end of town. They will also reportedly have assistance from Maryland State Police and the Worcester County Sheriff's Office.
