Smyrna, DE.- The Caesar Rodney girl's soccer team did everything they could to defeat defending back to back state champion Padua, but it just wasn't enough.
The second seeded Padua (16-1-1) won its third straight state championship, the program's sixth in the last nine years. This is the third season in a row Caesar Rodney's season has been ended by the Pandas. The Riders lost the 2012 title game, and a semifinal game last season to Padua.
The Pandas got off to an early start in the game when Regan Lehman converted a penalty shot into the left corner of the goal in the 12th minute. Arryana Dennis would push the lead to 2-0 Pandas in the 28th minute, as the Pandas would take the lead into halftime.
The Riders would not go away, as Lexi Prillaman would be awarded a penalty kick in the box, and find the back of the net in the 58th minute. With the deficit cut in half, the Riders looked to tie it. Despite a few huge saves by goalie Kristiana Stevens, Padua was able to sneak in a another goal in when Emelia Ryjewski found the back of the net just three minutes after the Riders got on the board.
CR finished the year at 14-4.
