Five Shorebirds Named To South Atlantic League All-Team

Salisbury, MD.- The South Atlantic League announced its 55th annual All-Star Game, and five Shorebirds were named to the mid season exhibition. P Hunter Harvey, 3B Drew Dosch, RF Mike Yastrzemski, P Sebastian Vader, and P Jimmy Yacabonis will all represent Delmarva in Hickory, North Carolina. The five selections are the most for the Shorebirds since they sent five to the 2011 All-Star Game, hosted at Arthur W. Perdue Stadium.

Hunter Harvey will be the starting pitcher for the Northern Division team. Harvey, the Orioles' first round pick last year, has posted a 3-3 record thus far, and is among the league leaders in E.R.A., strikeouts, and WHIP. The right-hander leads the league in opponents' batting average (.170).

Joining Harvey among the Northern Division starters are third baseman Drew Dosch and right fielder Mike Yastrzemski. Dosch has been a consistent force in the Shorebirds' lineup, batting .316 thru 54 games with nine doubles, three homers, and 24 RBIs. Yastrezmski has sparked the squad in more ways than one in his leadoff spot. The right fielder currently leads the South Atlantic League in triples (8) and outfield assists (11), and leads the Shorebirds in home runs (6) and RBIs (34) and total bases (110). Yastrzemski's shining moment so far in 2014 came on a 3-for-6 day at Lakewood, including two bases-clear triples.

Among the reserve pitchers for the Northern Division team, starting pitcher Sebastian Vader and closer Jimmy Yacabonis will also represent Delmarva. Vader has posted a solid 7-2 record with a 2.94 ERA in ten starts for the Shorebirds, and is tied for the league lead in wins. Jimmy Yacabonis has been lights out as the Shorebirds' closer. The Matawan, NJ native leads the S.A.L. with 13 saves, and hasn't allowed a run in 17 appearances out of the bullpen. Yacabonis has been near perfect for the 'Birds, allowing just six hits in 20.0 innings, with 26 strikeouts.

The 2014 South Atlantic League All-Star Game will be held on Tuesday, June 17th at L.P. Frans Stadium in Hickory, North Carolina. First pitch is scheduled for 7:00 PM.
