Hurlock Man Charged In The Neglect Of Elderly Father

Posted: Updated:

HURLOCK, Md. - A Hurlock man is behind bars, after his elderly father was admitted to the hospital with injuries related to neglect.

Hurlock Police say on May 17th, 86-year-old James Mciver was admitted to Shore Health Dorchester Emergency Room, with numerous medical conditions, which appeared to be from neglect. The Department of Social Services contacted Police, and they started an investigation in Mciver's living conditions and treatment by his son and caregiver, 49-year-old Darren Mciver.

That investigation reportedly lead to the arrested of the younger Mciver. He was charged with vulnerable adult abuse causing serious physical injury, vulnerable adult abuse/neglect, and reckless endangerment. Darren Mciver is being held on a $30,000 bond, pending trial.

During the arrest, Police say they found a pension check of James Mciver, and his license, in Darren Mciver's possession. He apparently had forged his father's name on the check, in an attempt to cash it. Darren Mciver was additionally charged with fraudulent ID theft and display of government ID, and held on an additional $10,000 bond.
