Family Returns To Ocean City With Message After Tragic Accident

Posted: Updated:

OCEAN CITY, Md. - One year ago this weekend, five year-old Jalyn Shaw was hit in a crosswalk by a speeding driver in Ocean City. Saturday, the now six year old and her family were back in the beach town to be a part of Ocean City's annual Baltimore Ravens Roost Parade.
Jalyn's mom, Erin, says the family was nervous about making the trip at first, but they wanted to not only be strong for Jalyn, but they wanted to show gratitude to everyone who's supported them in the year since.

Jalyn was walking with her family across Baltimore Avenue at 19th Street after last year's parade, when she was struck and thrown nearly 70 feet down Baltimore Avenue.

Erin says she returned to also share an important message for both drivers and pedestrians.

"There are so many people here this weekend and during the summer, pay attention," Shaw said. "If you or your children were crossing the street, you would want the same."

Erin says Jalyn's recovery is going well, but slow due to some serious brain injuries. The woman who hit Jasmine Shuman was sentenced to three years in jail in January, with all but 18 months suspended.
