Teen Charged After Reportedly Fatally Shooting Grandfather

Posted: Updated:

CAMDEN-WYOMING, Del. - Police are investigating a homicide in Camden-Wyoming, where a 17-year-old apparently shot his grandfather.

Delaware State Police say it all happened around 6:20 PM on Monday, when they responded to a home on Willow Grove Road, for reports of a man shot in the stomach. Once on scene, Troopers reportedly found that 84-year-old Charles Semans had been in an argument with his grandson. According to the report, the grandson went and got a shotgun, and shot Semans once in the stomach.

Semans was first taken to Kent General Hospital, before being air lifted to Christiana Medical Center, where he died from his injuries on Thursday. Police took the Semans 17-year-old grandson into custody at the home on Monday, and charged him with assault 1st degree and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony. He is being held at Stevenson House in Milford on $40,000 bond.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner conducted an autopsy of Semans on Friday, and found the cause of death as gunshot wound to the abdomen. The manner of death is apparently still pending at this time.

The Attorney General's Office says they are still making the decision on whether they will be pursing the charges in Family Court or Superior Court. At this time, no charges have been filed in Semans death. DSP Homicide Detectives are reportedly continuing to investigate this incident.
