DOVER, Del. - A Leipsic man has pleaded guilty to the August 2013 homicide of his girlfriend. On Thursday, Attorney General Beau Biden announced that 21-year-old Tony Mozick Jr., pleaded guilty to the August 31st, 2013 homicide of 19-year-old Taylor Owens.

On September 7th, 2013, Delaware State Police were notified by local residents about charred human remains in a wooded area on Denny Street in Leipsic. An investigation showed that the victim was Owens, who had been reported missing by her family earlier in the week. Owens and Mozick had been living together nearby.

Mozick was arrested on September 8th, 2013 on the accusation that during an argument at their home on August 31st, Owens was killed by Mozick, after which he moved the body to the woods, and tried to conceal the remains by burning them. An autopsy ruled Owen's death a homicide, but the Medical Examiner's office couldn't determine a cause of death.

An investigation that included evidence from both Delaware State Police and the prosecutors reportedly concluded that during the altercation, Owen's fell and hit her head, which resulted in her death.

On Thursday, Mozick pled guilty to manslaughter and abuse of a corpse, and was sentenced to 15 years in prison.

Biden had this to say about the sentencing, "This defendant will spend a significant time in prison for the tragic death of this young woman."
