UPDATE: Jury Selection Completed For Bodenweiser

Posted: Updated:

GEORGETOWN, Del. - Jury selection wrapped up Thursday for the trial of Eric Bodenweiser.

The former Delaware State Senate candidate stands accused of sexually molesting a young boy more than 20 years ago. But the 55-year-old maintains his innocence, striking down a final plea deal last week.

On Tuesday, 29 people were selected to be considered for the jury panel. Thursday morning, an additional pool of approximately 50 people were whittled down to 19 people. The 29 people chosen on Tuesday joined the 19 selected on Thursday around noon. It took about an hour and a half to finalize the jury panel. There are a total of 12 jurors: 5 men and 7 women. Four other alternates were also selected, all who are women.

Opening statements are scheduled to begin Friday morning at 9 a.m. Judge E. Scott Bradley says he expects the trial to run for at least two weeks.

Bodenweiser was indicted in October 2012, on 39 charges of 1st degree unlawful sexual intercourse and 74 charges of 2nd degree unlawful sexual contact.  However, that indictment was recently amended to 14 counts of 1st degree unlawful sexual intercourse and 14 counts of 2nd degree unlawful sexual contact.
