SMYRNA, Del. - A Smyrna woman is being charged with murder, after she apparently shot her husband.

Delaware State Police responded to a call at Sugar Maple Lane in the Willowwood Development shortly after 3:06AM on Wednesday. The initial phone call to 911 was disconnected, but a dispatcher was able to make contact with 57-year-old Amanda King who stated she had shot her husband.

When troopers arrived they found a Glock .45 caliber semi-auto handgun in the kitchen.

According to police, the woman's husband, James King, 68, was found near a staircase with a single gunshot wound to his upper body. He was later pronounced dead at Kent General Hospital.

Amanda King was transported to Troop 3 where she was arrested for first degree murder and Possession of a Firearm during the Commission of a Felony. She was transported to Kent General Hospital for unrelated health issues and turned over to Delaware Department of Corrections to be held without bail.

The motive is unknown and the investigation is on-going.
