Dr. Mark Bowen Honored with 47 ABC's "Teacher Who Makes A Difference" Award

SALISBURY, Md. - 47 ABC made a special surprise visit to Parkside High School to recognize a remarkable teacher on Wednesday.

Dr. Mark Bowen was honored with 47 ABC and Accurate Optical's "Teacher Who Makes A Difference" award, for the month of May.

Currently teaching criminal justice, this is Dr. Bowen's second year at Parkside, but he's been an educator for 20 years. Before coming to Parkside, he left the school system to become a police officer. Five years later, he decided it was time to come back.

"I was director of gang intelligence for the Department of Juvenile Services for a while. And seeing the need that children had --so many kids were coming through that system, I felt that I could be more effective in the classroom interacting with youngsters every day. Children truly do make the difference. That's what makes it important. That's why I'm excited to come to work everyday," he said.
